Monte Vista has a cool old Italian vibe, so it's awesome but not always applicable if that's not the vibe you want. I like the hill layout, the pretty houses, and the peaceful, vacation feel. But I have only every played one sim on this map because it's so specific. It's good for a supernatural style game, imo. I love the steampunk-y stuff that came with Midnight Hollow, but I have yet to play the map because I'm scared of how dark and weird-looking the colors are. Dragon Valley is fun, and comes with neat celtic-style items.
However, the houses and people are only old-style on the outside.
The furniture and lifestyle is still modern. I changed up my house by getting the fairy-tale style item packs from the store so it could look more medieval. The dragons are fun to mess with, but a bit fiddly. Sunlit Tides has a fun layout, and is AWESOME if you have the Island Paradise DLC but find the world that came with it to be too buggy to play. Lucky Palms is one of my favorites, because it has a desert feel, which is quite unique to other sims towns. I like the orange landscape dotted with golf courses and mansions.
